New Scalextric cars for 2018

Scalextric have released details of their new product range for 2018 and if you are a BTCC fan then you will be in for some good news. There are no less than 5 new cars being released this year, with 2 BMWs, 2 Civics and 1 Volkswagen.

We are looking forward to the Jordan BMW with its “hopefully” metallic bright blue colour scheme and also the Jeff Smith Civic with its standout livery. It is a shame that we are not being treated to any Ford’s, Subaru’s, Vauxhall’s or Toyota’s for this year, we think that Scalextric could have pushed the boat our with at least one new design. Lets hope these new cars sell well and we may be treated to some exciting news later in the year!

Elsewhere in the range, there are some new liveries for GT cars which look nice but we are not sure if we will be investing here at Slot Car club. Although, with so many different liveries to choose from, it gives our members an opportunity to arrive with a different car.

There are some new F1 cars but they look a little basic, I would say they appear like a super-resistant looking car (rather than high detail) which is a shame. The McLaren F1 does look very pretty but the Scalextric announcement came on the same day that the McLaren team said they are completely changing the real car to look different in 2018, so the Scalextric livery will only represent the 2017 seasons car! We already have a fantastic selection of F1 cars at Slot Car Club, so I do not think we will be seeing any of these new models at the club races.

Finally, we did like the look of the new McLaren GTR as these are one of our favourites cars of all time. Scalextric are releasing the “short tail” version of the car, although Slot Car Club already has a class for the Slot-it version of the McLaren “long tail”. At this time we cannot see where the Scalextric car can fit into any of our classes, which is a let down for a nice looking car, but you never know if one may appear one we see it with our own eyes.

Heres to a great 2018 season and looking forward to some enjoyable slot car racing.
